March - Snowmobile

March was supposed to be a snowmobile rental, but due to the lack of snow, this has been postponed until next year.  I'm crossing my fingers!

-------------------------------------------
Update:  it was well worth the wait!!!!!

This winter has MUCH better snow, and it worked out nicely.  Friends of ours came to Vancouver for a few days visit, and as they are avid snowmobilers back home in Ontario, we thought this would be a great time to go!  We went up to Whistler, left Jenn in the village to enjoy her own pace, and the rest of us went to the snowmobile base just south of Whistler.

The snow at the base didn't look all that promising, but it wasn't long before we left the mud and slush behind, and got to the great snow that was waiting for us!

We stopped a number of times to enjoy the views, although with the heavy snow falling, and the low cloud, the view was quite limited.  The snow however was wonderful!

The company with whom we booked our time also does dogsledding and snow-cat skiing - this great vehicle passed us on one stop, filled with eager skiiers and snowboarders.

Up in the alpine bowls, we got to try some riding in deep snow - it was quite tricky keeping balanced in the soft stuff, and so much fun!  Each of us got stuck at one point or another, as we'd been told to expect, and in the deep snow, the easiest way to get out was to roll the machine right over, which puts it on fresh snow, and then it's easy to ride away - pretty cool!

Just to show how deep the snow is, underneath this pile is a utility shed, and our guide told us that the peak of the roof (about where my hand is) is 10m above the ground!  THAT's a lot of snow!

It was an awesome time, so much fun riding in such beautiful surroundings, and with great riding partners!
